Get active: Take part in Love Football's Festival of Football
Patients from across Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest are being invited to get active and take part in a Festival of Football at Hackney Marshes on 4 June 2017.
Following on from the success of the Newham Walking Football Tournament in November 2016, Newham CCG is working in partnership with Love Football once again to hold a walking football tournament for the over 40s. This is one of the many ways we are working to connect people with the NHS through the power of sport.
Love Football organises events that celebrate football and aims to encapsulate the diversity and community spirit of major UK cities today, bringing cultures together in a competitive and engaging environment.
Being more physically active is one of the best things people can do to improve their health. The over 40s walking football tournament is a fun way for local people to try something new and get moving. All fitness levels are welcome – there's no running required, just walking.
Local people aged 40 and over can now sign up to participate. The tournament will be part of a weekend long Festival of Football which features a variety of tournaments and football activities to appeal to fans of all ages and abilities including the Inner City World Cup, a replica World Cup with 32 teams made up from multicultural inner-city communities.
All participants in the Walking Football Tournament will receive a free football kit to wear on the day and take home, plus a free ticket for the Soccer Six Presents Fantastic Five Event on June 24/25 at the Copperbox Arena. The Festival of Football is free entry so bring your friends and family to watch you compete.
