Have you heard about GP online services ?
GP online services are quick, easy and secure. A large number of GP practices now offer the opportunity for you to confidently manage your own health by allowing you to book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and even access your GP record online using a computer, smart phone or tablet – whenever you want, wherever you are.
Nine million patients across the country have already signed-up for GP online services and every month they are ordering over a million prescriptions and booking 1.2 million appointments.
The benefits to GP practices and the NHS are significant, reducing ‘did not attend’ rates for appointments booked online, and online ordering of prescriptions is safer, saving time for the practice and is more convenient for patients.
Shilpa Patel, aged 59, who attends the Shrewsbury Road Health Centre, has been using GP online services since they were launched last year. Shilpa comments: “I’ve found using the online services so convenient and easy. I regularly book my appointments and order repeat prescriptions online, which is so much easier than having to go into the practice repeatedly to do this. I can also get the information I want about my care online.
“At our practice, appointments are run on a ticketed system, which means having to go into the practice to get a ticket for a later appointment. This can mean going backwards and forwards a couple of times in one day and for people like me who are disabled and have numerous health issues this can be difficult, especially if I have to arrange for someone to go with me. Being able to book online appointments means that I have a given time to attend the surgery and can choose my doctor so it’s easier to arrange for someone to attend with me and get the care I need.”
To sign up you will need to visit your GP practice with two forms of ID. You can get more details about GP online services and how to sign up at www.nhs.uk/gponlineservices
