Minor Eye Conditions Service
Have your say about our plans to launch a high quality minor eye conditions service through your local optometrist
We are in the process of launching a new high quality local minor eye conditions service for patients registered with a Newham GP. The service will run as a pilot for two years offering diagnosis and treatment for common/minor eye conditions by optometrists such as:
- Red eye(s)
- Significant recent discharge from or watering from the eye
- Mild trauma, for example a scratch to the outer surface of the eye(s) or lid(s)
- Suspected foreign body in the eye
- Mild pain and/or discomfort in the eyes
The new service will offer an alternative way for patients with a common eye problem to be seen. Currently, patients with these common eye complaints are referred by their GP to Hospital Eye Services or A&E for further investigation by a specialist.
Soon patients using this service will be able to see a specialist optometrist at a number of sites across Newham, bringing care closer to home, improving access for patients, as well as shorter waiting times.
By taking part in this survey your feedback will help us to develop a service that meets your needs and will be instrumental in shaping the proposed service.
Complete the survey by the 28th January 2019. Our patient and public engagement action plan outlines how patients and the public can get involved in shaping the future of the minor eye conditions service in Newham.
The survey has now closed. 150 people completed the survey and 28 have expressed an interest in getting involved in future engagement activities to do with this service. The full engagement report can be found in the download section.
